Founding Member Passes

 

Horst Melcher

Horst Melcher, a founding member of the club, has passed away at the age of  73 after suffering a stroke while on vacation in California.  Horst Melcher, born May 2, 1936 in Gross-scham Romania, died Tuesday, August  11, 2009.  Horst, age 73, resident of Mount Prospect, IL and Bonita Springs FL was the beloved husband of Hertha; loving father of Sonja (Ray) Nilsen and Kurt (Katy); devoted Opa to Alex and Ella Melcher and Audrey Nilsen; cherished brother of Lissi (the late Myron)Onyszczak and Walter (Candice) Melcher. 

Horst graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with an engineering degree and went on to work as a civil engineer for Oak Park.  He was one of the founding members of the Chicago Green-White Soccer Club, serving as President for many years. 

Visitation will be from 4PM to 9PM with a prayer service at 7:30PM on Sunday, August 16 at Ryan Parke Funeral Home 120 S Northwest Hwy,Park Ridge, IL. Phone: 847-823-1171. Cremation private.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Green-White Soccer Club c/o Cindy Kaempfer, 160 Fairmont Mount Prospect, IL 60056.  Please keep the Melcher Family in your prayers.
