The U13 Power coached by Mike Grivas and trained by both Simone Lodge and Bunny Ray Larmond won the Rockford tournament on May 3, 2009 by gritty and talented play by the Power squad. On Saturday at 8 am, the Power played their first game of the season (many rain cancellations) against the younger Rockford Dactyl AB team. They lost that game 3-0 with several of their intended goals going wide or just high of their intended mark. Some "offside" calls also impacted the final score of the game.
The Power then came back to face the older Rockford Dactyls that afternoon. The Power dominated the play with solid play by the Defense, Midfield and the Strikers. Special note of the goal tending as well. The Power ended ahead in the game with a 2-1 victory.
Finding themselves in a hole because of the first game, the Power faced a strong Madison team that they had lost in the championship game last year 1-0. The Power were ready though and came out strong. They put 4 goals in the net and only let in 1. With this win, they were placed into the championship game on Sunday at 1pm against the Rockford Dactyl AB team that they had originally lost to on Saturday at 8 am.
The Power continue to show their skills and tenacity by scoring 1 in the first half. A penalty however was called late in the first half against the Power allowing the Dactyl’s to tie up the game with a PK. The Power came out strong in the second half and by the end of the game they put another 3 goals in the net. Final Score--4-1 Power. Congratulations Power!!!
